As it pertains to the The Schwitters’ Army, The Ritual refers to two things: a collage and a performance.

COLLAGE

The Ritual is an incomplete collaborative collage to be completed by Veterans of Schwitters' Army who visit Sanquhar, Scotland, United Kingdom.

To perform this ritual, one should send an email to the Quartermaster of the Schwitters' Army Collection of Collage Art at MERZ and request an appointment. One should arrive with a collage fragment, glue, and whatever supplies they need.

PERFORMANCE

The Ritual refers to a performative act by Veterans of the Schwitters' Army as laid out in two sources:

From "Covenant Concerning the Schwitters’ Army Collection of Collage Art"

"That, Veterans of Schwitters’ Army shall forever be welcome in the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar, to the best of the Town’s ability, except during the Riding of the Marches when the town is preoccupied, and shall, upon visiting and stopping at Nithsdale Pub, be offered a dram of The Balvenie, a doublewood, 12-year-old, single malt whisky (or some similar potion) for which they shall pay full price and toast Schwitters’ Army."

"That, per The Ritual and The Covenant, Veterans of Schwitters’ Army upon visiting and stopping at The Nithsdale Hotel, shall be offered a dram of The Balvenie, a doublewood, 12-year-old, single malt whisky (or some similar potion) for which they shall pay full price and toast The Schwitters’ Army."
