STATEMENT OF ARTIST PRACTICE

The artist is a creative individual. He has an “auto-relationship” with society; a process whereby the Self is continuously regenerating itself in dealing with the Others. Here, the definition of Others refers to the socio-construction of society ranging from a socio-political system to a person on a street.

As part of contemporary art practice, artists translate their life experiences to form new meanings in their artworks. In other words, life experiences gathered through dealing with Others become a narrative for artists. With the narratives, the artist feels they can represent the voices of Others. It is within this context the narratives of the Others form the framework for creating new meaning for their aesthetics which also brings forth the “multiple realities” of the society

As an artist, the aesthetic should be representing the voice of Others. It is because our life is confronted with multiple realities, and therefore there is no one way of interpreting our aesthetics. The layers of images interpreted through the collage allow us to interpret various forms of life experiences. In doing so, it allows one to view everyday life in a different reality.

I work in various forms of medium. Presently, I am working on video performance.

In the new world order, we are confronted by various forms of destruction happening around us. The melting of the Arctic due to climate change, border conflicts, the killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, flooding in Pakistan, the Ukraine war, and conflicts between Israel and Palestine. With or without our involvement, we are still experiencing the common form of pain in our mind space and body around us. It is because everything and everyone is interconnected, interdependent and interrelated in this world. Therefore, we are one of the many who are responsible for the destruction around the world.
