World Collage Day is 10 May 2025
World Collage Day is an annual, international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May. Initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018, we invited artists and art venues to hold events on that day to celebrate collage. World Collage Day is about artists connecting across borders against a global context of entrenchment and separation. And the day is about an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking. Ric Kasini Kadour, the editor of Kolaj Magazine, writes, “We created World Collage Day because we wanted to honour this community of artists and to remind the world what a spirit of cooperation, mutual support, and creativity can look like.”

COLLAGE ARTIST
2025 World Collage Day Poster Artist
Kolaj Magazine is pleased to announce the 2025 World Collage Day Poster artist is Uruguayan artist Rosita Schandy.
Schandy grew up and currently lives in Montevideo, Uruguay, enriching herself with the illustrations and drawings she sees in books and those her dad made. Throughout her life, she has explored techniques in a wide array of media. Her creativity took her to paint on canvas and leather, then to decoupage on canvas until she fell prey to the ‘passionate technique’ of analog collage, as she describes it. In June 2024, Schandy debuted a large-scale mural collage as part of her first solo exhibition, “Imaginarium”, which took place at Sala Saez in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The artist wrote, “My collage work is completely manual, I cut from magazines, books or from printed images from the web. I work with bright color backgrounds and glue. For temporary murals displayed at exhibitions, I use a ‘putty’ type of reposition-able adhesive. I enjoy working on very colorful and generally busy pieces depicting fantasy, touches of surrealism and irony, whimsical details. I love to catch the viewer’s curiosity to keep them exploring a piece to discover more in it. In my pieces, such concepts as the feminine shape, ornaments, fantasy and surrealism, intertwine with religious icons, flowers and comic characters in some sort of playful dance, with a touch of protest, sarcasm and balanced ridiculousness.”
The World Collage Day Poster is free for anyone to use. Click the image on the left to download a high-resolution pdf suitable for printing on an 11×17 piece of paper.

How You Can Get Involved
Organize an Event or Project
One of the many remarkable things about collage is its ability to extend across borders and barriers and to involve people regardless of skill level. Professional artists at the top of their game sit side by side with members of the general public who are picking up scissors for the first time. This is unique in an art world that often trades on hierarchy and status. The collage community is generous and kind and welcoming. It is one of our greatest strengths. World Collage Day is one day we show the world how we do that.
We encourage everyone thinking about a World Collage Day event or project to take responsibility for educating themselves about the needs of their community. We encourage you to follow guidelines set out by health officials and be mindful that these may evolve and change over time.
If in-person gatherings are safe and possible in your community, we invite artists, art centres, museums, galleries, schools, and communities to celebrate World Collage Day by hosting events and projects that bring communities together. Ideas include collage making meet-ups, docent-led tours of collage in a museum or gallery, activities for kids, slideshows or talks that appreciate collage’s role in contemporary art and art history, exhibitions of collage, and more. Consider a project that manifests the spirit of World Collage Day in a safe and responsible way. This may take the shape of a Window Exhibition, sharing Collage Starter Packs for your neighbors, or organizing an online Collage Happy Hour. To get inspired, check out past events and projects from previous years (see below on this page).
In February 2021, Kolaj LIVE Online hosted a forum, “How-to World Collage Day.” You can watch it HERE. In February 2023, we hosted another Kolaj LIVE Online forum, “Get Ready for World Collage Day 2023.” You can watch it HERE. Both of these videos are great ways to familiarize yourself with the event and learn how other artists have organized events in the past.
Now is the time to plan and whatever you decide to do, we want to hear about it. After you submit your event, we will announce your event on the World Collage Day website and through our social media. We invite people to come together around collage in their own communities and to connect to the world digitally using the hashtag #WorldCollageDay.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, USA
Pictures at the Intersection of Photography & Collage
3PM
New Orleans Photo Alliance
7800 Oak Street
New Orleans, Louisiana 70118 USA
For the past 18 months, Kolaj Institute has investigated the intersection of photography and collage through a series of exhibitions and artist residencies in partnership with the New Orleans Photo Alliance. This research has been guided by the idea, “The mediums of collage and photography are bound together in an ongoing dialogue. The photographer makes pictures of the world. The collagist remixes those pictures to tell a story about the world we live in. What happens when the photographer begins collaging their own work? What happens when the collage artist picks up the camera?” We found artists engaged in a variety of techniques and approaches: collage as process; making art with family archives and found photographs; using alternative processes like cyanotypes and Gelli print transfers; and challenging how we think about images in a world flooded with them. In doing this, the artists invited viewers to consider questions of identity and gender; family and memory; the materiality of photography; and history and artist process. During this slideshow and talk, Kolaj Institute Director Ric Kasini Kadour will share his findings and speak about the role of photography and collage in contemporary art. He will also speak about how Kolaj Institute‘s ongoing partnership with the New Orleans Photo Alliance will unfold in the coming year. Registration required.

This exhibit is my attempt to uplift and honor my family legacy, while still being true to the pain and struggles that are intertwined with our story. Hughes will speak about her installation at 7PM on May 10, 2025 as part of World Collage Day and Second Saturday Bywater Art Walk. The event is free; RSVP is appreciated.

PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN
Dar La Lata: Collage in a Can Collective Exhibition
22 January-10 May 2025, 10AM-5PM CEST
Bodega Morey
Calle Morey 4
07001 Palma de Mallorca, Spain
The love for collage and for the culture of recycling has brought together multidisciplinary artist and curator Zahara Muñoz Vicens (Availability Uncertain) and Octavio Caballero, owner of Bodega Morey, to explore the re-use of the throwaway object, the tin can, as art canvas and medium in itself. “Dar La Lata” is the result of a collage open call with this small format as the only limitation, to give voice to a diversity of artists, and their intimate introspective moments, in a lively bar environment doubling as a pop-up art gallery. The resulting exhibition takes the concept of collage to the mashup realm: paper cut ups, paint, ceramic, architecture, fabric, plants, magazines, stickers, poetry, papier maché, beads, plastic all come together in a journey of irreverence, current affairs, trompe l’oeil, surrealism and humour. Dar La Lata is an old Spanish expression, “to give the can”, as in canned food tins, which means to go on and on about something, a recurrent event in bars.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, USA
World Collage Day at Collage-O-Rama with Danielle Krysa aka The Jealous Curator
10AM-Noon PDT
Slip Gallery
2301 First Avenue
Seattle, Washington 98121 USA
What separates one collage artist from another? Is it source material, process, style? Sure, it’s those things, but creative voice is what puts the shine on your unique qualities as an artist. So how do you know what your creative voice is and how do you go about finding it? Danielle Krysa aka The Jealous Curator will be talking about exactly that when she celebrates World Collage Day at Collage-O-Rama at Slip Gallery in Seattle! After an artist talk and Q&A, they’ll pull out the glue sticks to collage. They won’t be using just any collage fodder. The challenge for World Collage Day is for everyone to use the same source material, a double-sided 11×17-inch poster that will be handed out at the event. If there was ever a way to emphatically demonstrate that no two collage artists are the same, this is it! Northwest Collage Society will be livestreaming the talk via YouTube for those who cannot attend in person, and the poster is available as a free download or can be ordered by mail from Special Agent Collage Collective. RSVPs are appreciated. In-person seating is first-come-first-served. RSVP IN-PERSON EVENT | RSVP ONLINE EVENT | VENUE | ORGANIZERS

FREDERICK, MARYLAND, USA
A(mended) Spring
Noon-5PM EDT
Give Rise Studio
125 South Carroll Street #101
Frederick, Maryland 21716 USA
Join Give Rise Studio in celebrating World Collage Day 2025 as they focus on the theme of growth, transformation and rebirth. “As we emerge from the cool wintery months, we invite you to consider the ways that collage can amend by improving or re-contextualizing source material and/or mend by ways of the creative process. It’s an invitation to explore the transformative power of collage, a process that mirrors the very essence of this seasonal shift. From personal experience, Katana Lippart has found that collage is a c-yclical process: physically sourcing and repurposing neglected materials and emotionally connecting to the work as it reveals itself through experimentation and play. In this open call, reflect on how you approach your collage practice by selecting flora or fauna-related components representative of Spring. In essence, ‘A(MENDED) SPRING’ is about capturing the spirit of transformation, both within the materials we manipulate and within ourselves, as we engage with the creative process. It’s about finding beauty and new meaning in the fragments of the past, just as spring revitalizes the dormant earth. Just as nature transforms and awakens, so too, can our souls be reignited.” Artists who submit their work and pay the application fee by Monday, 5 May 2025, will be included in the exhibition taking place on World Collage Day, Noon-5PM. The gallery will also be offering free collage workshops and an artist roundtable discussion.

She will explain cutting, gluing, and design techniques, as well as delve into color design, composition, the selection of motifs, and the stories that can be told through collages.
